Homo Sapiens: Wise Man

The most intelligent species na nabuhay sa kasaysayan ng mundo ay ang humans o tao. In Latin we call it Homo Sapiens o wise man. Mula sa single celled organism 3.5 billion years ago hanggang sa madevelop into humans.

Ayon sa The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection ni Charles Darwin which was published on this day, November 24, 1859, ang modern humans ay nagmula sa apelike ancestors hanggang sa mag-evolve over a period of 6 million years.

Malayo na nga talaga ang narating ng tao magmula noong unang natutong gumamit ng tools (Homo Habilis: handy man) hanggang sa matuklasan ang paggamit ng apoy (Homo Erectus: upright man). We have the ability to create poetry, music, able to build skycrapers and fly into space na hindi kayang gawin ng anumang species.

From Darwin's elaborate studies ay nabuo ang theory which is based on the idea that all species are related and gradually change over time. It's a fact and not subject for debate anymore whether you accept it or not.

But future research by geneticists provided the mechanism and additional evidence for evolution by natural selection. Ito ay ang pagkakatuklas sa
DNA (Deoxyribonuclic acid).

Ang DNA is the material that carries all the information about how a living thing will look and function. Dito nadiskubre na ang humans and chimps share a surprising 98.8 percent oftheir DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). Kabahagi sila kung saan tayo nag-evolve.

Tinatayang ang modern humans ay nagsimula 300,000 years ago ngunit ang naisulat na kasaysayan ay umaabot lamang sa mahigit 6,000 years. Meaning, nasa 97% ang lost history ng humans.

The earliest roots of science can be traced to Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia inaround 3000 to 1200BC.

We use "theory" in day-to-day lives different from a scientific theory which means "a carefully thought-out explanation for the observations of the natural world that has been constructed using the natural world, and which brings together may facts and hypotheses. It is not based on emotions, beliefs and faith."

Thanks for reading.

Just don't use the word "theory" loosely in science. It's totally different.

Kinda sad that people think that scientific theory is just an assumption. They can never understand that a scientific theory is very different from what they want to perceive. I gave you a scientific point for this blog, sir. Perhaps birds of the same feather do really understand each other. Be well, kind sir.

I think, therefore I am. I think?

Maybe I can make a separate blog in the future for enlightenment. But what is more depressing is the state of our nation exactly because of what you stated above.

Thank you for the kind words and for taking time to read.

God created the man, and Adam came to life, as a man, hindi  yung nanggaling muna sa hayop bago naging tao.

If the British invaded America, bakit may British pa rin? Sounds off, right? Kasi hindi ganyan mag operate ang evolution by natural selection. It involves scientific tools and evidence.

Faith is the absence of evidence. Science is the opposite as it goes through rigorous experimentations, observations and evidence subject to peer reviews.

okay, so sa madaling salita, wala kayong kinikilalang Dios?

I will not force my beliefs sa inyo, since makasalanan din akong tao, pero even so, I do believe na there is a God, who will judge all of us accordingly

I agree with lonereadervc na ang evolution ay isang teorya lamang. Please get back to us kung nahanap na ang missing link ng evolution tree.

Your personal belief is yours. Wala tayong right to ask about others kasi nga personal ang isang paniniwala. There are thousands of gods in the world at lahat ay nagsasabing "kami ang tama at kayo ang mali". Di pwedeng lahat ay tama, di ba?

But the blog mentions a scientific theory. Iba ang proseso nito kasi kailangan may ebidensya, obserbasyon at malalim at mahabang panahon na pagsaliksik bago maging theory ang isang hypothesis. Ang faith ay walang ganong proseso.

Great post, author. Although some comments need some enlightenment. Eto po ang definition from dictionary.com:

"A scientific theory is a well-tested, broad explanation of a natural phenomenon. In everyday life, we often use the word theory to mean a hypothesis or educated guess, but a theory in the context of science is not simply a guess—it is an explanation based on extensive and repeated experimentation."

Too many scientists have given their blood sweat and tears for their work to be minimized as "theory na ginawa lamang ng tao".

Understand that evolution is something that happened over the course of millions of years. Di sya nangyari overnight. These facts, you can verify yourself by looking through a microscope. DNA manipulation in plants have already been done. DNA is our genetic makeup. I always hear the argument, "di tayo nanggaling sa unggoy," well guess what? We don't. We share the same ancestor.

Very enlightening. Imagine the geocentric belief dahil nasusulat daw that "earth cannot be shaken or moved". More than a thousand years of wrong doctrine that destroyed by science because of evidence and observations.

Copernicus and especially Galileo suffered because of a wrong doctrine. They believed that the sun is the center of our solar system and not the earth (heliocentric).

Thanks for reading.

this is wrong, in the Bible, the Bible says, the land can be moved, and the possible that it will ge destroyed or gone are already foretold

“You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching, Love like you'll never be hurt, Sing like there's nobody listening, And live like it's heaven on earth.”

1 Chron. 16:30 – “yea, the world stands firm, never to be moved.” Literal ang interpretation nito ng Vatican. This and many other passages say very plainly that the earth does not move. Iyan ang mali. Galileo was sentenced to prison in 1633 dahil sa heliocentrism.

But the Vatican accepted  Galileo to be right after 350 years sa panahon na lang ni Pope John Paul II around 1979.

“You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching, Love like you'll never be hurt, Sing like there's nobody listening, And live like it's heaven on earth.”

@Bebeko, yep, all because of hubris, the thought that us humans are the most important thing in the vast cosmos which is spanning infinity, that the whole universe revolves around us and that there shouldn't be any other explanation for it.

It's sad that a lot of people don't know history. Imagine if the Age of Enlightenment hadn't occurred, we won't be here discussing things online. We'd be stuck in the dark ages where science would have been deemed witchcraft.

I respect religion as a societal construct, a means of organizing community, but not its bloody history.

far too many people died because of faith

and yes, faith doesnt have the same requirement, no longterm research or whatsover , that's why it's called faith, it is the belief that doesnt requires any proof as long as someone firmly believe

There is a God, and there is your science. It is already foretold.

That many will forget about God and they will not believe, that they will believe in something else. It is also foretold that the knowledge of man will grow.

Do I believe in science?

kaya po napakahirap na usapin ang patungkol sa religion at science , napakahalaga po ng advancement ng wisdom ng tao, at we can discover and learnt a lot of new things, many disease are having a cures now because of science, we can experience a new way of life because of science and there's a lot more na hindi ko pa po nasasabi, science is good for mankind.

faith...

Both can co-exist naman, respect each other's beliefs. If there is an afterlife , then we'll know na may Dios, if after death is just nothing, then that's it.

It becomes difficult to talk about science and faith kapag hinaluan ng emosyon. Science do not deal with emotions. Unacceptable yon. But we always acknowledge people with different beliefs. Sobrang daming gods and religions.

Salamat sa opinion. Very much appreciate it.

It is never a productive argument when it comes to science and religion. Science is the foundation of dynamic progress while religion is the center of psychological. emotional and spiritual shelter - a protection, a hope, even intagible - to provide oneself hope that, after all, when the end is neigh, there is still something to look forward to. Hence while religion caters to emotional, psychological and spiritual factors, science deals with cold blooded data regardless whom it may offend because such is the nature of science.
Religion can sometimes be manipulative and dangerous as what history show us.  The never ending wars of beliefs has resulted in many deaths that bloodied the sheets of our continuous existence. Science can be manipulated to be dangerous as well. The difference being both sides agree to the principle of its manipulation and therefore creates an enforced of neutrality due to the fear of mutual destruction.  Such is not in religion.

Religion at times borders to fanaticism that has shed more blood than the atomic bomb dropped on both Nagasaki and Hiroshima which was created by science. But the real question one must ask here is not about science but religion in itself.  It begs to wonder who is right?  Judaism that has a history dating back as far as 530 something BCE? Christianity taking its root at 0 AD?  Islam taking root at 610 CE?  whose belief is right? who will be saved?  What about the others that came before the 3 big religions?  Were they doomed because they started before the the big 3 religions? And since were at it, the chronological time in the bible by estimate would be 6-8 thousand years ago. But what about the dinosaur fossils that were carbon dated as far back as million of years? And if God created the world like it says in the bible, so God only start to exist about 6-8 thousand years ago? and that there was no God then when dinosaurs roam the earth that, incidentally, has already existed?

Sometimes you just need to take it over and over again...Until you're all numb...and then in your eyes it'll lose its meaning...

You posted good questions there. As much as I don't want to touch the religious aspect sa blog ay matatamaan pa rin but I tried to minimize the impact. Imagine from walking to running until we have bikes, cars, trains and now airplanes to move people faster.

Charles Darwin's On The Origin of Species, imo, is still the most controversial book kahit ang dami ng supporting evidence na isang major achievement para makilala natin ang pinagmulan ng tao.

So, I'd rather focus on what humans achieved in our history instead of personal belief in supernatural stuff. Thank you for sharing us a piece of your brain.
