To Roan Of My Misspent Youth

wherever you are  now,

i hope  that life has been kind to you,

that you are blessed and happy

as I have  always prayed for you to be.

oh how great is my sorrow for the great  love that was  once mine

the pain of  realizing  I threw away such a golden chance.

now, like stardust  in the infinite galaxy,

only  the  residue of what  might have been remain in  my thoughts..

haunting  my  nights and my days.. after all these years,

 after all the loves,  after all  the people and things that have touched   my  life,

 nobody has loved me the way you did love me…..

nobody has gazed upon me with such loving eyes like you did…..

nobody has uttered my name with so much  tenderness and endearment..

nobody has touched me  with such warmth and  gentleness…

our bodies-- skin to skin in our nakedness in the  afterglow of shared passion.

and that smile…that smile,

 it  will linger in my mind for as long as I can remember….
