The Samurai were fearsome warriors whose traditions of honor and discipline made them rule Japan for a long time.

Samurai warriors described themselves as followers of "The Way of the Warrior" or Bushido. Bushido is defined as "a unique philosophy that spread through the warrior class.., the Samurai felt that the path of the warrior was one of honor, emphasizing duty to one's master, and loyalty unto death".

The teachings were revived and made the basic code of conduct for much of Japanese society. But one of their teachings made me think and post this blog. It's about the respect to parents.

Takeda Shingen (1521-1573), a pre-eminent lord in feudal Japan with exceptional military prestige,  made this observations:

"Everyone knows that if a man doesn't hold filial piety toward his own parents he would also neglect his duties toward his lord. Such a neglect means a disloyalty toward humanity. Therefore such a man doesn't deserve to be called 'samurai'."

In Christian teachings, love of parents is found in the 4th commandment. Basically the same with Bushido.

Respect our parents more and do something special for them today. Have a wonderful week.
